Peter Green, first Fleetwood Mac guitarist, dies in his sleep. Music-wise, a sad sad loss; But it was a tragic loss fifty years ago when first he lost himself. (Sometimes you don’t do acid. Acid does you.)

Not Of This World.

I’ll say a sadly late farewell to Peter Green,
He’s gone from the dark place he’s long been,
This man who put his soul into Fleetwood Mac
Then went off on his detour, never to come back.

Peter took a little trip on the Cosmic Cab,
A one-way trip that deals out a heavy tab.

He yearned to soar high to that mystical place
Where the bound to Earth might see Gods face,
So, with enquiring open mind Lysergicly expanded
Pete saw Heaven knows what before he crash-landed.

So if its blissful enlightenment you’re tempted to find
Please- think of how poor lost Peter changed his mind.

  1. nicely put. I don’t know a lot about him other than he started FM and was a big part of their early blues sound; then was gone from them. But I guess from your description he was another Syd Barrett was he? Too bad.

    1. Yeah, sadly another drug burnout, like Syd. He was a big blues enthusiast as a lot of the Brits were in the late sixties. ‘Albatross’ is genius, even if some say its influenced by ‘Sleepwalk’. Its atypical of his work perhaps, but ‘Man Of The World’ and ‘Oh Well’ are more where he was at the time. Then came a party at some wooded mansion, some LSD and away we go. If there’s underlying mental fragility acid sure would not help.

      1. No doubt. I saw an interview clip not long ago with Santana, who as we know is rather an advocate of it. I would disagree with him, but it hasn’t done him much harm apparently. Anyhow, he basically said you need to be in a good place to take it because it unlocks whatever is caged up inside… so if you have fury or unresolved issues hidden away, it’s gonna come out. And sadly, sometimes its hard to cram back into the pandora’s box.

  2. Now, when I talked to God, I knew He’d understand
He said, “Stick by my side and I’ll be your guiding hand
But don’t ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to”
    Ooh, well…
