The first blush of a hot summer, the sound of an old song and suddenly unsettling feelings resurface. Why? I guess I do still remember that long passed perfect summer. Ah, well: And so it goes.

Them Ol' Solid Gold Summertime Blues.

At last those cold clinging wintry days dogging spring are done,
Now there's no better place than on the warm grass under the sun,
And as I doze my mind drifts back to yesterdays unclouded by regret,
Of good old days by the pool, when we wuz young and green and wet.

Those were the days, before our mapped-out lives had begun,
Before a mother aimed her daughter towards a rich mans son,
When the discs spun only for us four; Clare, Marie, me and Chet,
Long gone days, then soon forgotten, but now- impossible to forget.

  1. Nice memories. I think it answers a question I never knew the answer to – is Dec-Feb “winter” or “summer” in the Southern Hemisphere. I knew it had longer days, warmer weather but didn’t know what you guys called it… figured it might still be “winter” but to you winter would be the warm season!

    1. Ah, those memories of first crushes and first loss. Bitter sweet memories for sure, but we all had to slog our way through the trenches of a painfully brutal adolescence. Deep sigh…
Yes, everyone from the Northern Hemisphere gets thrown a loop when they come here for our sun drenched Christmas. Our family Christmas dinner is a barbecue, out under a usually 80 degree sunny sky, cold salads, a cool beer resting comfortably on the side tray of mien hosts barbecue, everyone in Tshirts, shorts or sundresses, nieces cavorting under the sprinkler, assorted outlaws and parents getting stuffed on steak spuds and sausages… Not to mention a steady flow of amber whites and reds. It’s nice to get lightly sizzled and sozzled at Christmas!

  2. Well, thank ‘ee kindly. I guess sometimes the sarcastic facade slips a little and we drop the ol’ guard. Some days and some toons just drag us back, wether we want to go there or not. (Regrets? I’ve had a fuck load…) Such is life! PS the tune was Big Stars ‘Thirteen.’
